I was diagnosed with PTSD a few years back, due in part to an extremely toxic work environment. I was unable to work for almost four years. Now that I'm back in the work place, my anxiety has gone through the roof despite therapy and medications. I thought this new job wouldn't be very stressful, but it's turned into a nightmare and I don't know what to do. I need to work to support my family, but each day before work I throw up, have severe diarrhea, and cry uncontrollably. When I get to work it's not that bad, but getting there is almost impossible. I don't know what to do!

Ah, gloaming, I understand how you feel. My last work place was extremely toxic before I went on disability. And when I came off of disability and went back into the workplace I went through all of what you are going through. It took me a full year to get my confidence back and feel comfortable being in the work place again.

Two things: give it time...it will get better. It's just a process of becoming comfortable again.

Second: talk to your family, talk to your therapist, see if it this is a bad fit for you, this particular job. And if it's not a good fit, start looking for something else. Also see if you can work with your T on how to cope in the workplace. My T and I did a lot of work prepping for my return to work so that I would know what to do in different scenarios, and that helped a lot with my setting boundaries with my employer and how I would deal with different things.

Good luck,
seesaw
