I've been thinking about an idea for an app, and was wondering if anyone has some info on how to get started, or a personal story to share so I can know how to start and plan.
I have no academic knowledge right now, but I can get to learning programming if needed (I studied at high-school). I plan on studying Math and Statstics+Operations Research. Or, Math and Computer Science.

Thanks

Google "app development", "app development business", etc. I'm surprised how many courses, tools and advisory articles pop up just doing that search.

Search on youtube as well. There are a LOT of courses, tutorials and interviews with developers on there.

I would suggest hitting up at least one of the many free educational web sites out there. Code academy and Khan Academy are two that spring to mind but there are others. Also if you want ideas on how to monetize apps or more app ideas that could be profitable, try hitting up Blackhatworld and the Warrior Forums; both internet marketers forums that should have a subsection available for app development or marketing. it's been awhile since I have used those sites but beings they are internet marketing websites there should still be plenty of info specific to app development and marketing on them.

While it isn't easy building an app that can be monetized, it is certainly doable if you have the right mind for it and I've heard that freelance app developers make a killing.

Freelance app development and freelance web development are two things I would recommend anybody who is technically inclined to try as both can make you a lot of money while allowing you to pick your own schedule and remain in control of your life unlike traditional jobs.

My long term goal is to transition into a freelancer myself so I never have to deal with corporate America and it's greedy BS again so I would say go for it! After all, knowledge is free when you have the internet and libraries so there is no need for a college education in this day and age to make money.
