How many of you believe this. It's really the amount of people collecting un-employment.
Thanks for this!

My husband and I were never counted in the unemployment rate the two years we were unemployed because we owned our own business before that. I still don't work. I've never been counted among the unemployed.

There was a piece on the NBC nightly news this evening about major retailers who are laying off employees. Retailers are losing customers to on-line shopping. They said the number of new jobs created during the last reporting period was half of what had been anticipated.

I think there is an additional problem (not mentioned in the NBC report) that many people who are working can't earn enough to cover basic expenses. On the other hand, everywhere I look, I see people driving around in brand new shiny expensive cars I could never in my life have afforded. So somebody's making money!

Another part of the picture is how many employed are holding 1 FULL TIME job. Many people are forced into taking 2 and 3 part-time jobs with no benefits because FT is impossible to find.

The unemployment rate is based upon a few things, which make it look a lot better than it is. It doesn't count people not collecting unemployment, which is a lot of people. I also remember there are some other weird things about the formula that inflate it to seem a lot better than it is.

yes also the people on SSDI are not counted. So the rate always goes down after time . I almost forgot about our disabled veterans. So where I live I say it's more like 20%. How about you.
