I am a good employee, always have had a good work ethic, but my current (8 years) job has killed it. The place has NO regard for it's employees whatsoever. Forced overtime due to screw ups all over the place, inept supervisors, favoritism, and lazy people. Also, it is in the southern part of the country and after living here for the last few years, the rumors have turned out to be true. Gossip and ignorance (lethal combo) rule the day. A lot of these people have never been out of the state let alone worked anywhere else. They have nothing to do a comparative analysis on. The whole place is screwed. Given my nature, I stay to myself and don't bother with anyone. However the forced OT is bringing out my rage problems. Even though we have a second shift, first shift has to stay and help them. I am about to explode. Anyone else?

PS- The place of employment rhymes with UTTER-GALL.

Only thing we're going through right now is new leadership and the changes that go along with that ... However, I have worked in some toxic work environments in my time, and except for making myself as small a target as possible while looking for something else, there's not much else one can do!

Try to not lose your temper as that could go against you in a very bad way, especially if you're trying to find another job while negotiating the mine field that this one has become ... I wish you the best while you figure this situation out ... In the meantime be extra patient, gentle & kind with yourself!

Thanks for this!

I understand your situation. I'm going through a hellish situation at work myself. I think pflower is right, making yourself as small a target as possible while getting out is smart. I am filing an EEOC complaint and a Dept of Human Rights complaint against my employer for violations of the ADA (I have a known disability disclosed on file since day 1 of my employment and I have a service dog that comes to work with me). I have plenty of documentation, and even though I've tried to work it out, they refuse to budge or see the **** they are in. So I'm trying to be pleasant and stay calm and just continue to document while I look for a new job.

I think just trying to stay on task and make sure your work gets done, that's all you can do.

Good luck,
Seesaw

This is exactly why I plan on starting my own business eventually.

Employers are scum who expect us to revolve our lives around them, yet they can't even meet us half way by showing us common decency.

Screw that. I will work only as often as I need to build up startup funds and pay basic living expenses while I'm building my empire. Once employers outlive their usefulness to me, I will be the first out the door to seek better things.

I encourage anybody with a MI to look into starting a small web based business doing something like reselling goods online, selling things such as arts and crafts that you can hand make, or starting a monetized blog or website. Additionally, freelancing is also a good bet which is something that I will do as well with web developing as my knowledge increases.

These employers will never respect us. Luckily, they aren't our only option.
Thanks for this!

Where I work things change drastically I feel like I'm being screwed over since I have applied to get internal positions yet keep getting turned down. Hopefully I'll move to the email team then look for a job elsewhere.

Anyway I agree about the lack of respect from employees. I was wanting to do freelancing I feel I need more experience and skills to do it successfully. I was starting out to help someone with technology as a side job then my job took me away from it always working us to death.

I am doing sales no commission I didn't have a good experience doing this position. I know having a business does require selling. I still see myself doing my own independent work

You would be surprised how easy selling online is compared to doing it in person the "traditional" way utilizing a site such as eBay or Amazon.

I have been supplementing myself via reselling goods on eBay. I go around garage sales and thrift stores with a scanner app on my phone that automatically scans the item and tells me the sale price if I were to resell it on eBay and tells me if I will make a profit or not and if said item is profitable, I buy it.

I don't make much doing this yet because I don't have my license yet nor do I have anybody with a vehicle to help me so I'm limited to how many items I can obtain and carry around riding the buses as well as limited on time due to it taking me 1-2 hours to ride the bus around town but it's still netting me an extra $100-200 a month which helps me a lot when I don't have a stable day job.

Oh and I have social anxiety and poor social skills so that should tell you how easy it is.

I don't think I even have MI and I agree with you 100%. I am going to see about getting into real estate flipping. I have about 12 years (OMG) before retirement so I am just trying to keep as small as possible. I wish I knew when I was younger what I know now.

I urge anyone who can start a business to do so. I wish there was a web page where you could find a partner.

See, I have no problems working for anyone. I have NO DESIRE to be a boss. All I want is my paycheck each week. I just want to get off when it is TIME to get off. None of this having to stay and work tandem with night shift crap. I wanted night shift when it started and should have gotten it on seniority, but that means NOTHING there. I was FORCED to go to a stupid "round table" meeting and I asked the JOKE of a plant manager how night shift was going to work. He said with great authority that it would be walk on, walk off. A fellow employee asked him what would happen if your replacement didn't come in. He stated clearly that it would then be night shift's problem. When your shift was up, your shift was up. I asked would it be the same if there was rework. He stated emphatically that yes, it would be carried over to the next shift. So, it is one of two things. Either he was out and out LYING, or he had/has no CLUE what goes on there.

True. I mean at least selling online, you are not seeing the customers face to face so it does make it easier. People were wanting me to do online business so I was thinking of doing that. I gave up a long time ago and now I am thinking about doing something online to make money perhaps writing to make some bit.

Blogging is actually a great way to make money from what I hear. I never had the motivation to try it myself because it does take a bit to start making money off it but if you are patient, it is profitable.

Look up both internet marketing and affiliate marketing; that is how you would monetize a blog.

In fact, the more I think about it, the more I'm considering starting a mental health blog and using my PC account to profit off said mental health blog by driving web traffic to it.

I have heard you can make pretty good money doing that. Long time ago I was part of this affiliate blogging site the company didn't even bother to help me get started had no idea what to do.

I was looking at writing and publishing it on Amazon to earn some money

You can also purchase a website that already has viewers. That way you can make it better.

See this is the problem. I have no problem working for anyone either as long as they are reasonable. But every job I have ever had was just a lie fest. And not even that... a conspiracy of fraud. Telling you at the interview you might have to stay late "on occasion" and when you are first there, you never have to work it, but as soon as you are kind of trapped and can't leave. Then you are working every night.

Stupid policies are all they have.

The most stupid managers always get promoted.

They will find reasons to fire you. When you are young, any MI or anything "different" about you makes you a target. When you are older they will not allow people over a certain age to work anymore. They simply will find a reason. You think "oh when I am older I will have all these raises" but when you start making money, they will start a harassment program and if you don't quit they will come up with reasons out of left field.

The only answer is to get a gov't job or save so you can start your own business.

I think no one teaches people how to do that because they want you to be a slave.

One thing -- I don't want to be a negative ninny but I don't know if selling on Esty would be able to support everyone. At the very least you should look into Temp jobs. I did temp work between jobs and I LOVED it. I got paid well, I even had insurance with the agency, and I could refuse or just never go back to the job I went to.. and usually people there were so happy to have me (so they didn't have to do my work) I could do no wrong. It was like opposite job.
