Feel a sick day coming on because of the depression. Does anyone else feel guilty and debate taking a sick day because of depression?

Every time, I feel absolutely guilty even though I know I shouldn't. Fortunately at this most recent job, I have been reliable and only have had a few sick days. But in past jobs, I'd have to call in sick more often and it felt awful every time, like I had failed.
I try to keep in mind that mental health days are not a bad thing, and are sometimes necessary. |

I talk myself out of it—I tell myself, if my late husband could get out of bed with heart failure and fatigue, every day, I can do it. So far, it has worked, but man it has been really, really hard some days. I probably should have stayed home some of those days coworkers noticed I didn’t look quite right

My students and co-workers notice when I go in and probably shouldn't. Hard to wear the mask sometimes.

I have felt guilty in the past when I simply couldn't get out of bed, but now I know more about my depression, and I try to drag myself out of bed, but if I can't, I don't fret about it. I just take a sick day when it's that bad.

I used to bc I was such a work-a-holic. I literally maxed out my sick and vacation leave. I started taking sick days (bc why not? I had plenty of hours) and didn't feel bad about it at all. But I was feeling the pain when I returned to work--even after a day.

I'm awake still debating if I should take tomorrow(today) off. I hate this.

I find for me personally that keeping a routine tends to help with my depression. So if I force myself to do the usual morning routine (exercise, shower, breakfast) and head in to work, I'll 99.9% of the time feel GOOD that I forced myself to go in. Of course there are exceptions and you need to consider what is best for you on that particular day.

Well, I went in to work and didn't have a breakdown or anything. Can't say I feel good I went, but there's no guilt at least.

Took the day today and might take tomorrow. Have a doctor's appointment Thursday.
