I went to a job fair last week. Just to see what was out there. Signed up for a few pieces of information. Handed out a few resumes. Never even gave it another thought. Well on Friday I got an offer. A truly amazing offer.

So now I am not sure what I'm going to do. The big thing. The job is in New York City.

Wow! That's cool. NYC is a fun place. But expensive.

Thanks seesaw

If I do take it, and they are willing to wait because I am not taking my daughter out of school and putting her in a new one mid-year.

It might be helpful to write down every question you have about the job and the move and attempt to answer each one. What would this mean to your financial situation, to your family, to your lifestyle, to you? How do you envision your typical day at the new job and city?

Sounds exciting!

Thank you... I have been doing just what you said. Weighing all sides to see both the pro and the con... I'll let you know what I decided later.

I love NYC a lot but it’s expensive so you have to make decent money to be comfy there. Congrats!

I have a friend there in NYC—lives in Inwood on Seaman Ave. I think it’s probably a reasonable place rent-wise given the salary my friend makes.

Update...

I will be moving to New York City to start my new job on March 5. I will be going over a weekend to see if I can find better housing then that of which I was offered. Basically, I want to move only once. The way it is set up now I would be moving into an apartment supplied by the hospital and then move again in 3 months to wherever I want too. I already contacted a real estate company that was recommended by a friend. I am looking for a 4 to 5 bedroom apartment or condo in a secured building with someone always working the front desk. The apartment or condo must have a place for a washing machine and a dryer. I will not be bringing any furniture I will just buy new stuff.

During the remainder of the year, my daughter and nanny will be staying put so my daughter will be able to finish the school year. I will fly to New York on Sunday night and return on Thursday night which will give additional time to find a place and set it up before my daughter and nanny arrive. My house will be shuttered after that and a security firm will be monitoring the house. There is a doctor who wants to rent the house but I'm not sure I want that.

I'll update more when I know more...

Raven

Heading to NYC tomorrow morning. The realtor has found four places for me to look at and some are very close to work in a great neighborhood. I will be returning by Friday...

Found a beautiful Brownstone within walking distance of work. It's 3 stories tall in a peaceful neighborhood and a "Safe Room." My Nanny will get the 3rd floor which will let her have lots of privacy when she wants it. There are 6 bedrooms and a basement apartment that could be rented out.

I am in talks with a Doctor from the hospital I will be leaving and we are negotiating a price for my house. I think it will be best to just sell the house. I have heard too many nightmares from people who rented out property and I don't know anyone I would trust with its care. The Doctor friend has a wife and 3 children and they will love the property as I have. It will also be a burden I don't need to carry. My daughter and Nanny will stay in the house until the school years ends in April.

As we speak I have hired a Decorator to furnish the house we are moving into. We will be taking some Antiques with us and our personal stuff but everything else stays put. The Decorator will keep me updated with photos and stuff like that I gave her a comprehensive list of do's and don'ts and will be heading back there on the weekend of the 16th of February with my Daughter and Nanny so they can see it. I will leave my present job on February 22nd and moving to New York City on the 26th and start the new job on March 1st. I will be going back home every weekend to be with my Daughter whenever the opportunity is there.

I'll keep you updated...

Turns out my last day of work is Thursday. They will be having a going away party on Friday night. My Doctor friend and I have come to terms with the price of the house. It's a sweet deal for me. We will be staying in the house until school for my daughter is out. Although I will be traveling back and forth from New York City until then.
