I’ve been on short term disability since October. I never thought I’d be out this long but the goal was for me to find a new job because my current job is toxic and things didn’t work out and I haven’t come together enkhn for my shrink to recommend me / approve me to go back to work.

Short term disability ends mid April so now I have to go through the approval process for long term disability which I really never never wanted to do because I know that’s just that much harder to get approved. It’s still through my company but short term was paid by the company while long term is by the insurance company.

They also only pay once a month and at the end of the pay period so I stop getting paid April 24 and have to wait for long term to take over May 24th.

This is really really hard and it didn’t help that one of the resources of my ptsd found a way to contact me online that doesn’t allow me to block them and they showed up online laser week. I left him 15 years ago.

I’m scared about applying for LTD, I’m scared about my ex showing up, I’m lonely because most of my friends have backed off and even when I’ve reached out. Haven’t stayed connected. I’m afraid of having to hide while I’m going through Ltd approval because I know they may send someone to observe me and I’m just stressed.

It is extremely unlikely the insurance company will send out someone to observe you. No need to worry about that.

Go for the LTD. It's not super hard to get approved, I had it through MetLife, and if you get it approved, if you need SSDI, it will be much easier to get on the first try (I speak from experience). And if you decide to go back to work, you can. But at least the option is there. Don't wait until you can't get it anymore, like losing your job or something.
