I have been on SSI for many years fighting my symptoms. I finally got accepted into an AmeriCorps position for 6 months, you can have those positions and keep your SSI and Medicaid, etc.. but I had to drop out not because of bipolar disorder but because I couldn't physically keep up. But that short time I worked, I was much happier with myself and having extra money felt good. Now I'm in a deep depression. Having an ill husband seriously complicates things. I was so much happier... I saw a job listed near me I thought sounded perfect for me but I realized it was posted over a month ago and they didn't respond when I tried to apply and I couldn't reach them over the phone and it just sent me more depressed...

If work hoped you to feel so good don't give up looking for the right opportunity. Another one will come along. Working really saved my sanity.

I have been through periods of unemployment, and it definitely makes me more depressed. I need structure to my day. I'm not looking forward to retirement.

I hope you get the job.

I now got two I'm talking too... The other one is another AmeriCorps position local to where I am at. 11 months. The permanent position however has more to do with what I really know about and is still local. I talked with both my caseworker and the housing place today and they think I need to be employed to better my current condition. I would prefer the permanent position of course but the other one would be fine too.

Pdoc thinks I should be employed too, but maybe just part-time. A social worker is going to talk to us and maybe we can figure out somethings.
