I know some of you have prob read my earlier thread on career failure https://forums.psychcentral.com/work...r-failure.html.

Anyway, I was browsing a website at a local company I would like to work at and found a job listing that involved working in a field I haven't worked in for about 13 years. But the pay listed was good so I decide to throw my app and see what happens( Just to add, I have prob submitted 20 applications to various jobs here with absolutely zero response.)

To my surprise I actually received a call and was set up for a phone interview that afternoon.

I aced the phone interview. I was so surprised by how much I remembered after all that time.

A few days later I get a call setting up a in person interview.

I went to the interview last Friday. It went really well though I have no idea whether or not Ill get the job. I'm trying not to read into things but its hard not to..

I go back and forth from excited I might actually be offered something to completely doubting myself.

This Job could pay more than I have ever made, Have much better benefits and I heard it could pa for the rest of my college. Plus the job is in a department that could utilize my degree when I do receive it. Just sounds like a real good opportunity.

But there is a chance I may not get it. I have no idea what to expect but it has given me a little bit of hope for the next few days

Now that I've slept o it a bit...

I wrote a thank you letter to the interviewer and he responded to it last night and let me know they selected someone else.

It was very nice and said that I was their 2nd choice.

I used to work for the former head of their department years ago, that guy is working part time as a consultant to the company right now. I have become aware that this guy found out that I was applying and spoke very highly of my expertise and professionalism. So I actually had a very well respected former manager advocating for me.

So I aced the phone interview, aced the actual interview, had the former head of the department advocating for me and in the end it wasn't enough.

The number one guys must have been a superstar.

I am still very disappointed but these things happen. I keep wondering when my fortunes are going to turn around. This was a hard one to lose.
