I have a bad habit of taking too much responsibility. But today my team did really bad. I think it was my fault. I was having side effects from new meds that was making it difficult to work. We all got talked to about it. I took my manager aside afterwards and I explained that I felt like it was my fault since I had started a couple new medications and I was feeling unwell from them. She said not to blame myself and that it was a team effort. She was really nice. Was this ok to say to her? I do feel like it was mostly my responsibility. I didn’t disclose what the medications was for. Work does not know I have a disability. I have my feelings they may have figured it out though.

Today my other manager asked me if I was feeling better today. So I guess my other manager had talked to her. I’m glad she did. I’ll gladly tell them about my disability if they ask. My side effects were not bad today. I did a lot better. Both of my new medications seem to really be helping.

If they are helping, put it down to one 'bad day' and leave it at that. Disclosure has rarely done anyone favours....depending on the team/work environment and constituents.

If you're working on a team it's a plus (well can be good or bad sometime), usually in organisations the team as a whole is responsible. So I think from your manager's response, she's not concerned about you. But honestly, If you have issues taking huge responsibility, it could be from many reasons. I suggest that you honestly sit with yourself and know your skills and what's lacking (ie. what are you not so good at?) Perhaps you're afraid of taking tasks that you're not occupied with the skills to fulfil them or someone's is doing better/faster/more efficient...etc. I'm sure everyone's skilled in some way or the other.

Just discover and uncover your talents & skills, you'll be amazed by your capabilities!

For fun: For you, I find this quiz a cool fun way to start -- it's called "Test your skills with MindTools" google it!
Ps Plz don't take it seriously, just one of these fun online quizzes.

It's definitely okay. There are plenty of meds for all types of health problems that can cause strange side effects and take time for people to adapt to. You don't have to explain what/why you are taking medications.

I would need to be forced at gunpoint or waterboarded before I mentioned the word medication to any of my supervisors where I work.

This is an old school environment and it would be seen as evidence that I am not at all capable of fulfilling my responsibilities. I trust them NOT AT ALL to take this kind of information and keep it confidential, let alone not use it against me.

I wish I was wrong about that, but I don't think I am.

It doesn’t even matter anymore. The manager is leaving. Now we are getting some new guy who for some reason people know but I guess he’s never actually worked at that store. They say he’s nice but sarcastic. Aspies don’t get sarcasm. So I’ll probably just think he’s mean. I really liked this manager. She was my favorite manager out of any I’ve had.

I think what you did was very courageous. Give yourself some kudos and realize that you're human. You may have endeared her even more to you since you didn't come up with some sad excuse and were candid.
