I am trying to get into my field of study, counseling with those that have mental illness. It's tough, because I've been passed over in one position due to my driving record. I hope that the other 4 will provide at least one interview. And hopefully a job interview. I hope my driving record doesn't get in the way.

I had 2 accidents in the last 3 years, most likely due to chance and not able to see fully behind me. I had a close call on Tuesday, but was spared. One of those accidents I got a ticket. I'm not proud of that fact, I don't know what happened. I had driven that section a lot and hit some one. I'm becoming complacent and need to change. I fear for others as well.

I just want to not drive as much.

That's a great benefits package!

I wish I could tell you about 401k but I know next to nothing about them. I just set mine to automatically rebalance for medium risk every 6 months. But I'm sure there's a better way to do it I just don't know any.

Congrats!!!!

Does your 401k doing matching? Like you pay $100 a month (for example) and company pays as much on your behalf every month or whatever other matching options? My husband has that at his job and it’s great. My 401k is whatever I put in. No matching

I recommend to sit down with whoever provides your 401k like a representative and discuss different options, what risk and how much to put in. We both don’t like risks so we have it set up as zero risk, but very little growth. Works for us.

now, about that driving record.....

if it was severe enough for you to be passed over for a position..it's time to own it and take action. you don't know what happened & you hit someone? a person? or another vehicle?

ok if you are going to be a mental health professional I would certainly not want someone providing for me who gets so distracted operating a vehicle that they can't recall hitting someone. if substance abuse was involved, time to clean it up. if not, time to learn to focus. either way,
2 accidents in 3 years are a lot..probably not due to chance. sorry. pay attention....will you pay that much attention to the folks you will provide for?

Some people are bad drivers. It doesn’t mean they are bad at other stuff. My daughter doesn’t drive. She is very independent and has graduate degree and professional career, so she is with it. But her driving is just bad because she doesn’t feel comfortable with it. So she doesn’t drive.

I do agree if that’s general lack of focus and lack of responsibility, it’s an issue. But if it’s lack of focus specifically when driving (due to anxiety of phobia of driving etc) then it might not effect other areas of life

The position does NOT require driving!!!!!!!!! I can get away from that, it at least reduce the risk of driving a lot. I am one background check away from having the position.
