I've been receiving provincial disability benefits for about 5 years now. About a year and a half ago I started working part time and about 5 months ago I picked up a second part time job that is a 6 month contract. Between the 2 jobs I'm working almost full time hours, but I'm still able to stay on disability for the health benefits like medication coverage and dental care.

I've just learned about a full time job, that would be great. It's working as a peer support worker in a major hospital. I'd be working with people with mental health and addictions issues in the emergency room, the inpatient psych ward, and the outpatient day hospital.

if I take this job, I'd probably be earning too much money to stay on disability. And going off it makes me kind of nervous. I'm scared of what will happen if I have another episode of depression or can't handle the job, and need to quit. I need to look into what happens if I do get sick again and need to go back on disability, in terms of do I have to completely reapply again.

I'm going to go ahead and apply to the job anyway, and sort out if I think I can deal with it, throughout the application process. I'm just nervous about it.

If you apply, that doesn't mean you have to take it if it's offered.

I think that's a good idea to inquire what happens if you relapse.

Did you apply for the job? What ideas have you come up with? - I've been there but I don't want to post obvious tips.

This may sound strange to you, but work is a protective factor.

Apply and see if they want to hire you first.
