The call centre where I've been working at for over 2 years is closing. Everyone is being laid off.

I cancelled my membership at the Y because the only reason why I chose the Y was because it was right next door to my work.

June 10th is our last day. This sucks. I am getting a raise soon too.

I have a trip in May I may have to cancel now. I am going to SF in May to meet up with online friends. It is very expensive.

My plan now is to find a job for the summer and then go to school full time in the fall.

I think furthering my education is key.

Oh no! That is horrible! I hope you are able to find something sooner rather than later.

Yeah, this sucks. I wonder if I'll be eligible for unemployment insurance if I can't find a job?

I want to go on that trip in May, but I am estimating it will cost $3000, and that is a lot of money.

I hate having to quit the Y. I was exercising everyday after work. I think I will run outside or on the treadmill at home now.

(((Green)))

That is really too bad that your job is closing...

So much of this going on, it's difficult.

What I find so positive in your situation is that you are making plans and short term goals... and even if you had to change a plan or two, it's temporary.

Keeping flexible thru your education, and forward thinking, is just great!!!

I hope if you must cancel SF... that you can make new plans when the time is better for you ~

One thing I have learned recently is that everything is temporary, even the tough stuff... and how we choose to respond to things that happen can make all the difference in the quality of our lives... and you have chosen to think positively about it !

This is going to work out for you, even if there are some sacrifices involved presently, because you are looking ahead.

Best of all things to you Green,
Night

The thought of the call centre closing has crossed my mind because ever since the economic downturn we are very low on work.

I am mostly OK with this because I did not plan on staying with them forever. I want to get a better job.

I will go to SF after all because I checked and my plane tickets are non refundable. If I cancel my trip, I will get credit for future trips, but the catch is I have to use the credits up by one year.

So I think I will go to SF. It will be fun.

The Y was fun while it lasted. My pdoc will be disappointed this happened because she said that exercising is good for anxiety.

I am into the habit of exercising now though, and will exercise from now on. I plan on getting up a little early and going for a walk/jog. I need to exercise.

I'm really sorry that where you work is closing - it's happenning a lot of places. If you've been working full time you'll definitely be eligible for employment insurance, not that that's a lot of money, if you're part time - it depends on how many hours you've worked within a certain period - I forget how many you have to work to qualify.

If you can afford it, I'd keep the Y membership giong. I was unemployed for 15 months and having a routine of things to do really helped me & if exercise is something you like, it could help keep your spirits up while you're looking for work.

Further education is always a good goal, have you started researching programs, entrance requirements yet. I believe the application deadline for a lot of ON college programs is around now.

Hope everything works out for you.

Do you know if I can go to school while getting unemployment?

I am thinking of going to school full time in the fall now because of this. I can get my science degree and get a better job. I am almost done. I've been going to school part time.

I was part time for a while then full time at my work. I hope I still qualify for EI.

I'm so sorry to hear that Green! Hubby just came home and said that he too will be laid off for a while. This came as quite a shock as this company does business on a global scale and is #2 world wide. Previous downturns in the economy actually boosted their business in the past (small companies go out of business this one would pick up the slack). Good luck to us all during this difficult time.

Greenleaves, I'm very sorry your work is closing and you are having to go through this

I've had the opportunity to be downsized numerous times, the entire workplace once, my particular position once, and my entire department once. It's disruptive and emotional.

I think you are absolutely right! This is the best thing to do and I admire that you can look forward and think constructively while dealing with this.

I hope that somehow you can save your vacation plans, it sounds like fun and a good time to get away.

Best of luck to you in your future and your schooling!

Greenleaves,

At least you have some time to find new employment, or re-enroll in college.

My hubby had to have pay cut severely two months ago, but we're hanging in there. My hubby is very scared that he will lose his job. The human resources told him that he won't get laid off, but my hubby doesn't trust them. I cannot work due to my disabilities and my hubby is the only income that we have.

We just found out about staffing cuts where I work today. I had anticipated this happening sooner but my job will likely end by June 30th. I have had one interview already from a different firm and am playing the waiting game. I have apps at other places as well. I am lucky in the sense I am not a homeowner, have no pets or kids to feed and my wife's job is very stable.

I wish you the best of luck my freind, keep plugging away, and do not get discouraged. It will work out for you.

the best
