Hi BrittneyNicole the one thing I find that get's me thru my days is when I can't associate with people who drink....for now. I have had to give up friends who like to drink as entertainment..it's not easy but for now i try to find other things to do like exercising....I have signed up for a oil painting course....which I used to love to draw...and here I think I will meet new peeps with different interests.

Nothing is going to help you change your habits unless you see a problem/want to change them.

Your friends telling you you drink too much seems strange to me; do you drink with them or mostly on your own? If you're with them and you want to cut back, just ask them to cut you off when you're at their house! If you're out at a club or something, only take enough money for X drinks and don't let them lend you money.

If you drink and smoke mostly when you're at your own house then you have to decide not to buy and/or do other things or be around other people who aren't drinking/smoking.

I did a lot of online school work in my spare time and studying/writing papers/doing school work didn't leave as much time or interest in drinking as I had before that.

Awesome! Congrats! Its hard&there will be days u might slip, but always remember that u can do it&everyone falls every now&then. Its important2pick yourself up&get back on the right path. U can do it!! I haven't drank in 8yrs now&I don't even associate with ppl who drink, just so I'm not tempted!

Also, a good thing2learn is what triggers ur bad habits. When u know what triggers u, its easier2figure out how2stop. Like, some ppl drink when they feel sad, so instead of picking up a drink when they feel sad, they could call a friend&talk or write in a journal. When I get anxious or angry I want2buy pills&get numb, but now I try2think about what's making me feel that way&why. Everybodys different tho. Its just a suggestion, but u should try it. PM me if u need2talk more.

Good job on not drinking! There will be ups and downs for you and I highly recommend AA or sober, supportive friends to help keep you grounded. It isn't always easy but it can be rewarding! Keep the faith.
