Today is the 6 year anniversary of my mom's death. Well for about another hour and a half. And I made it through! I didn't once crave a drink, when every other Sept 15 since she died, I've gotten drunk. I had the day off of work but even being home didn't drive me crazy! I had begun second guessing my choice to take today and tomorrow off, but good thing I did because now I'm sick! But I have time off to get better. I went to a meeting and then out to eat with my friend. I even had to deal with a dissapointment in a friend who said she'd be there for me today. All without drinking or even wanting to! And I wasn't even depressed! Just nice and emotionally balanced! What an amazing gift of the program. Just had to share. =)

Great news Rayna. As time goes on you will find it a little easier to be able to handle things like that a little easier. They will still be there and the triggers may still be there but you will have gained more self esteem in yourself and more knowledge in what you have to do to stay sober and clean. keep up the good work. :-)

Rayna,

I am sorry for the loss of your mother and can understand the anniversary being a hard time-- but you handled it so well! That is such wonderful news--- it's so nice of you to share this with us. Wish I could give you a big hug!! Please keep posting your successes-- I imagine I'm not the only one that has a bit brighter day because of your posts. I'm truly happy for you. I made it through!

Thank you all so much! I'm shocked every day at my progress. When I first decided to quit drinking, I went to my first meeting thinking I would just learn to drink in moderation! Ahh hahaha! When I then decided to dive into the program and quit drinking completely, I never imagined how much it would help me not just quit drinking, but learn how to live life in happiness. I was not only given the gift of not wanting to drink, but also the gift of how to live life on life's terms, one day at a time. I insist on enjoying life even with it's hurdles. It's truly amazing what I have been given. It brings me so much joy to know that you all enjoy going through this journey with me, and I feel blessed that I have the opportunity to share my successes with so many people that I value close to my heart. Thank you all for being a part of my sobriety!!!!

In recovery, it's best to be smart, not strong. You, my friend, are very smart. Congrats on making it through and having another day sober to add to your other days. Way to go, Rayna! You're smarter than me.
