Don't know where to go for help! There are really no 12 step programs that deal with this specific addiction (that I'm aware of) and I just need some support!! I have gotten off of this med before, but the 3 weeks it took to finally rid my system of it was more than I can even think about. I have a family, a job, and LOTS of responsibilities, and to get off again means to absolutely crash for at least the first week, maybe more. Which means I can't do this without anyone's knowledge...and those closest to me do not know I ever began taking this med again. Needless to say, I think they will have a hard time understanding WHY I would get into this position again (because I wonder too!), and will not want to be supportive. No one in my family seems to understand ADD/ADHD or addictions, or the link between the two. My personality has changed so drastically and I just need to quit taking this med and STAY AWAY FROM IT, but how?!?!? So scared and lonely, and so tired of hiding!

hi bp, well it might help if you told us the drug. some withdrawal with drugs can cause seizures so one needs to be in the care of a doc to wean you off. "There are really no 12 step programs that deal with this specific addiction (that I'm aware of) and I just need some support!!" there is AA and NA all over the world. for meetings near you just google AA, etc and put in your location. i strongly recommend a 12 step program for successful recovery. it takes's a time commitment by you but otherwise would you end up where u are now again? the chances are you will unless you get involved with a support grouup of ppl who have similar addictions, imho. also do u see a pdoc? if you do he/she needs to know cause you may have mood swings. they could handle the weaning off as well. keep us posted. we care.

well adderall falls into the drug category so there are a lot of drugs out thee that there are no specific programs for but if it's 12 step you are looking for go to any NA/AA meeting and talk to anyone there and you will realize it doesn't matter what drug your on in the end it is alll almost all the same when it comes to addiction and gettign the help....i'm sure you can meet others that you can chat or talk with if you are looking for others with the same issue.

but i am glad that you are reaching out, at least that's progress...search and ye shall find.....start going to some meetings..if that isn't your thing..there are a lot of online forums sites for recovery..there are p-docs that deal in just recovery/addictions..if you just want to talk to someone about it and for support...there are many avenues to go down..and many ways "your program can be worked"

i know at times we try to take on things and think we can handle things, there can be so many underlying conditions that we don't even realize as well.

personally my suggestions is make sure you have a p-doc....preferably one that will get a current health assesment, that means seeing a reg doctor to and doing some blood work-up or physical...than getting a support system down of some type (you don't have to limit yourself to aa/na 12 steps i know there are those out there that don't like "the program" but it is a good way to go, personally for me it's not but i have my own issues and reasons...but it is very helpful and you should give it a go!)
