So I am getting so excited!!! I'm on the host committee for ASYPAA-the Arizona State Conference of Young People in AA. It's going to be a 3 day conference over Thanksgiving weekend. We've got a speaker coming from Hawaii and I've heard her cd and she's excellent! I'm posting this because I cannot tell you how much getting involved in this has helped my sobriety. I had tried getting "in" with the young people's crowd, going to the meetings, going out for coffee, but I was feeling uncomfortable in my own skin until I got really involved. They aren't kidding when they say service work is an important part of our recovery! I've been going to the business meetings and I'm the unity chair for the group. We've gone to Phoenix twice now to outreach, it's about a 2 hour drive, and I've gotten to know people through doing that. We put on a Sponser/Sponsee breakfast about a month ago, and I got to chair the meeting and my sponser told her story. It's so amazing! Now that I'm involved and having so much fun in the program, the obsession to drink has been completely lifted. Working the steps and getting a solid relationship with my HP put me on that road, but getting active and completing that triangle has done an amazing job! So I wanted to post this not only to update you guys on what I've been up to, but to offer some tips to someone who may not be feeling all that comfortable in recovery. The trick for me has been to get involved, do service, go to the group conscience meetings for my homegroup, etc. It keeps me so busy that I have no time to think about drinking or getting depressed. It's awesome!!!! Thank you all for being a part of my recovery today!

~Rayna

PS-This last trip to Phoenix was for a Halloween dance. I danced for the first time in sobriety and it was amazing! I stayed up for nearly 24 hours and was exausted the next day, but guess what? I remember the whole thing!!!! LOL!
