Now that I'm clean from benzos, I am exploring options of dealing with my depression.

I have learned in detox that the biggest thing about addictions is that we use them to escape realities that we don't want to deal with.

I now have about 11 years worth of crap to deal with and am debating a residential program as an inpatient (inmate?) or doing it myself. I have a psych and NA meetings and help.

Can't post properly. Being nagged at.

Thoughts?

I've done rehab 4 times (I'm a slow learner) both residential and outpatient. I highly recommend it. You learn about the biology behind addictions, triggers, ways of coping with stress, relapase prevention, and it's just a good place to talk and start exploring your issues. If you can afford it or have insurance that will cover it, I say go for it.

the benzos may have caused the depression. seeing a therapist for his opinion re depression may clarify the reason for the depression too. getting rid of the junk emotions could be addressed in therapy. if u do that u may be able to do NA and be ok without further inpatient treatment. i did an intensive outpatient program after detox treatment coupled with therapy. it solved my own dilemma. been sober 21 yrs. so it worked for me.
hope this opinion helps you.

Thanks guys.

I just don't like the no phones/laptops, and rigidly structured BS of residential programs.

I also have a little girl, and there are no rehabs within an hour of where she lives with my mother now.

I will be doing follow up. My psychologist is away until the 20th or so, but I have a borrowed one for if it hits the fan, and am following up with the drug program at the hospital who referred me to detox.....
