Do you have a history of alcoholism? And...have you considered getting help for your urges to drink? Therapy and AA come to mind...if you are an alcoholic, I would highly recommend AA.

Or saved?

I've been treated for depression for decades & am a recovering alcoholic. What a combination alcohol & depression are! Egging each other on into the night & darkness & dragging you with them.

Or me at least. Each makes the other worse. If you want to get worse fast & cheap, keep drinking.

If you are satisfied just battling depression, AA worked great for me.

I wish you well!

Something clearly is wrong. Pouring alcohol down your throat means that your body, your mind more precisely is looking for relief. Relief from what? You haven't said and of course it is very important to get to the bottom of your problem but that's something you could discuss with a professional. You may need some therapy and/or anti-depression meds but continuing to drink will ultimately make you more depressed. In fact, it will alter your brain's chemistry and make things doubly difficult.

It is not an easy thing to do, stop drinking...the body screams out, "More! More! More!" because it likes the fleeting good feelings that drinking create but those feelings are entirely false. You will never find happiness or fulfillment in a bottle, in a pill, in a needle. The good thing is that you are young and the fact that you recognize your problem so early on puts you in a great position to correct this problem before it gets out of hand. Be strong, there is no one worth saving more than yourself. Good luck.

it sounds like you have valid concerns re your drinking. not all alcoholics drink every day. i can't call you an alcoholic. but i think it's worth looking at. also some ppl are problem drinkers and if so it would be advisable imo to curtail drinking often.
alcohol is a depressant so if you struggle with depression there's another good reason to slow it down.
one nifty suggestion by AA is see if you can abstain for 30 days. if you crave a drink or do drink during that time you prob have a problem.

This describes my past addiction with alcohol. I drank for no other reason that just being addicted to alcohol. Having a good addiction treatment plan can help you deal with the cravings. I use SMART Recovery Tools to help my stay sober, AA works as well.

Here are some recovery resources for you to consider as a way to recover from your problems with alcohol:

SMART Tools and SMART Articles

AA Books
