She's been an alcoholic for SOOOO long. And she would never admit that she had a problem with alcohol. But now she's admitted it. She says she doesn't want to die like this. She finally understands!!! She's going for treatment. Thank GOD! I have been praying, and wishing, and hoping for this for a very long time. You all please keep your fingers crossed for my mom. She truly is trying to get the help she needs. YAY!! I am thrilled!!!

That's great news MP. The first step is admitting there's a problem. If she has the first step down, then the rest are surely to follow. Because the first step is the most difficult to truimph.
Good Luck, and I hope it all turns out good for her. Be there for her, understand her, and be as honest as possible. Desirae

My hope is for you that you do not base your life on what your mother does. Yes, it is wonderful what she does!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there is no doubt in that but if your life revolves around that you have a rude awakening. Not that she will relapse or anything but your expectations. They are not the only ones within this sickness.

My mother was is an alcoholic but was sober for ten years when she died. I still remember the day she decided to get sober, so I think I know how you feel. I wish you both luck. p.s. Have you thought about going to any alanon meetings at all? They can really help. JMT ![]() |

Mp: It isn't going to be easy for her to just STOP. She is doing her best, right?
She has a disease. She admitted she has a problem finally. That is the first step in many "first steps" she will be taking. Don't say "Nevermind" and be angry with her. You say she has been drinking for so many years that her body depends on it. It may not be a matter of choice when she slips up. Keep believing in her. Keep telling her you believe in her.

You can realize that all you want but until you want to get sober you won't. Get mad! You have the right. You really do. Let her know just how you feel. This is called 'tough love' .....Sorry, just my thoughts. |
