I have an announcement: I am throwing my first non-alcoholic party for my college graduation next month!
I was going to use this as an excuse to drink but then my friend said she really enjoyed her grad party drink free and it was actually more enjoyable sober. I want to try it.

So, I am planning it out and I am actually excited for this. Although nervous because my family drinks and my friends drink, so it will probably be there but I will say "this is a non-alcoholic party" on the invites.

Here is my first step in planning: http://www.delish.com/entertaining-i...coholic-drinks

Any tips/stories, anyone?

GOOD GIRL!!! I'M SO PROUD OF YOU!! This is great! I was really afraid that you might "slip" when you said you were going to have some 'booze' at your party -- but now I feel SO much better!!! You'll have a GREAT time. Not only will you stay sober, but you won't have to worry about anyone ELSE getting trashed! LOL

I'm really proud of you. I'll be really anxious to hear how it goes!!! Make sure you give us a report of how it went, ok? (((hugs)))Lee

What an interesting friend you have! Actually a lot of people appreciate an excuse to avoid alcohol at a party (I know, hard for us alkies to believe but I have it on the best authority! ).

The bigger the group, in my experience, the better the chance some smarty will sneak a bottle in. In a smaller group, you'll likely know the usual suspects to suspect such shenanigans from ... Keep an eye out.

With a variety of food, music, and a variety of personality types, people who genuinely enjoy being together usually have no problem making their own party. You're the key. If you're at ease and in a festive mood, it'll all be good.

It is hard to believe, why to do they try to avoid it?
All I can think of is to avoid fights and stuff but I haven't seen a party brawl since I was a teenager.

Some people just don't enjoy the effects of alcohol, of the loosening of control. Yeah, I know ... what's not to like, huh? But some don't.

Fortune cookies ... I eat 'em, never wrote any. Hm.

Keeping you in mind, ladyjane4rent

Don't really have suggestions-but just wanted to say "good job" on your decision to have a sober shin-dig. I can party harder sober, cause I am clear-headed, know what I am doing and as mentioned, remember the next day!. It will make your graduation just that much sweeter!Congratulations for graduating, by the way! And just want to encourage you to keep sharing your plans, hopes, fears and the actual event with us. It's pretty cool to see another alcoholic's life change and get better!
Thanks for this!
