I last smoked tobacco, pot or took any recreational drugs 11 years ago and reading some posts on this forum have come to conclusion that I miss getting high.
I think over the years I've tried nearly everything out there but my drugs of choice were pot and speed. I know that my health is better being straight but I still get the urge, I wonder if it will always be like this? Any thoughts? ![]() |

For speed, I'd just suggest going and looking at the ones hooked on speed and reminding yourself of why you quit. The urges should only be short lived every now and then, when you get over the initial urge, it will fade away again. Keep up the good work, you've done wonderfully

...Hi Balrog...
...I have urges all the time and in the past I would let them take me out...It's funny how my mind works...It never remembers the consequences...Only the so called fun...Until it's to late and BLAM...Reality...I never could and never can use drugs/alcohol correctly...I suck at it...So I don't know If I'll always have urges...But when I do get them I just play back the tape... anyway I hope you do what best for you...

You need to "play the tapes" all the way thru, from start to finish. Yes, you can remember getting high, but do you remember the END -- when the high 'ran out" and you came down? Do you remember how crappy you felt? Do you remember the dumb things you said or did? Do you remember the wild attempts at GETTING your drugs of choice? Like I said, play the tapes from start to finish. It's not always a pretty sight.
I quit drinking almost 19 years ago -- it will be 19 yrs in one week from today, God willing. I haven't had an "urge" in many years, but when i did I always remembered the hangovers, and falling in love with the toilet. I remembered how HORRIBLE I looked and felt the next day - if I could REMEMBER the next day. ![]() Being straight/sober is a heck of a lot better than being high/drunk. My life is 100 times better than it was. How about YOURS?? |

![]() I understand your need to get high, and I may be disagreed with here, but I find it the most effective way to stabilize my depression and borderline personality... Any other drugs however I do not recommend going down that path again at all... do what feels right for you ![]()

good question, balrog. when you get the urge notice what's around you that triggers the urge. those situations be they people places or things are what right now imho you should stay away from. depression was a trigger for me to drink/self medicate. i went to therapy to understand the reason for the depression to fix it. many times the urge/trigger can be something mundane too. jounaling helped me too. i know it sounds stupid to write down your thoughts but it can inform you of the cause and affect (urge)
thank you for your honesty. i hope this may help you.

IMO the bad days, money spent, and embarassing or dangerous situations I got into out weigh getting back into drugs. For me, there will never be enough - so why bother? ![]() Peace & Hugs, TnT

Thanks for the good wishes, I've no intention of going back down that road i was wondering if the urge to get high still remains and how long it's there, the fight I had to get straight was something I have no intention of repeating
i guess it must be like an alchoholic probably never goes away always nibbling away at the back of your skull like an itch. My best wishes to everyone out there keeping clean.... |

With me the urges never completely go away at this point in my life. I do know the time span gets longer and longer between urges.
