I have a few diagnoses, but I think the PTSD(recurrent child sexual abuse), makes me adore the numbness from opiates. I've used for about four years, but it was causing too many problems with my wife and I. I love her way more than the drug.
I got through three an a half days of throwing up/dry heaving.
I'm prone to developing MAJOR infections and abscesses that are resistant to treatment.
Well, I got a cigarette burn, that turned into a severe large abscess overnight. I had to get lanced and irrigated. Now I'm left with a packed hole in my arm, that burns and throbs. I'm trying not to use, but sometimes when my arm feels like it's gonna split in half, I cave. I don't know what to do, I don't want my habit to skyrocket back to where it was.

Hi Damaged ~ What did the doctor suggest that you do for pain?

Can you put ice over the wound? You could wrap the ice in a baggie or something, and then wrap the baggie in a towel and place the whole thing over your wound. You wouldn't have to unwrap your wound. Just place it over the bandaged wound -- the coldness of the ice will get thru. But the ice should help the pain. Just don't use a THICK towel. But ice is very soothing, and it's good for things like abscesses, etc. It reduces the inflammation, swelling and pain. Give it a try and see what happens. You could buy one of those gel packs that you freeze -- those are better than ice cubes. LOL

Keep me posted on how you're doing, will you? I'd really like to know! God bless and please take care. Hugs, Lee

Hay Lee!!
Thanks for your reply. I didn't tell the doctor I was an addict for fear he would treat me bad(past horrible SI experience. He gave me ten 7.5 lortab, and because of my tolerance I had to take three at a time just for a touch of relief. Today I caved, and took a methadone.
My wife and I each have one of those freeze eye masks, so I'm gonna try them once they freeze. Thanks for the suggestion!
In the middle of the night, we're going for a wound recheck/packing change. Due to
My history, there's a good possibility it hasn't healed, or worse, has gotton more infected. We're praying. I don't want to be hospitalized, or get a PICC line again.
Thanks for your reply and sugestions. I will update you after.

Even with the antibiotics(the good strong ones); the whole abscess is back. It's hard, swollen, red, & hot. Not to mention the pain has increases exponentially. All of this in just a couple of hours. My girl needs a couple hours sleep, before we spend god knows how long in the hospital. I took a klonopin so I can hopefully sleep through the pain. We're going at 6:45AM. I'm terrified they'll want to admit me; fore I don't want to leave my wife, and because I'm still hooked.

Hey Damaged ~ Are you here, or are in in the hospital??? Geez I hope now, but it might be the best place for you.

Did the gel packs work to ease the pain? I hope so.

Let us know -- if you can. I'm thinking of you! God bless & prayers are coming. Hugs, Lee

I just had to reply to say, I loved the comment you made about loving your wife more than the drug. I think that is great. I am going through a totally different addiction with my boyfriend,, but I wish he would say the same about me.. I really hope that you get to feeling better and good luck!
