A lot of my favorite music was made by drug using musicians, especially Jazz, which is the music I find the most interesting right now.
Is it a problem to listen to this music? I think it's REALLY screwed up that some old timers at meetings tell the younger folk not to play guitar and that kind of stuff..... Thanks! |

As long as the music doesn't make you want to drink and use drugs, go for it. I think you should listen to whatever appeals to you.
I do know some musicians in recovery who had to stop playing for awhile, because so much of their playing was associated with using. That being said, I know a guy who has been in recovery about 7 years who is rebuilding a career as a musician and it's really taking off for him. I think everyone is individual and what works for one person may not work for someone else. splitimage |

I agree. It's an unfortunate truth that much creative brilliance has come from the darkest reaches of society (addiciton, etc). But as long as it's not triggering to you I don't see a problem in it. I don't listen to a lot of music that references the use of drugs or alcohol because I don't see the point anymore. I don't subscribe to that lifestyle and I no longer view it as necessary to having a good time. I know some people that, upon getting sober, eschew rock music altogether because it's too triggering for them, reminds them of 'the good old days'. It's personal to everyone.
