I think I have a drinking problem. I can barely go more than 12 hours without a drink and most of that is sleep.
When I don't drink I have horrible anxiety and get the shakes in my hands. I've turned into my parents. I'm so ashamed. I've told my counsellor and he suggests an addictions counsellor or detox. I'm so afraid of both. I'm afraid of myself. Of what I'm turning into. What has happened to me. I'm so tempted to just drive because I'm always drunk anyways I cant go anywhere otherwise. I still know better but it feels like I'm getting to that point. I've had at least one drink everyday for the past 7 days. It such a recent issue I don't know if I'm over reacting. |

You need help to quit this. Detox is helpful for easing the side affects on a physical level. Seeing a therapist will help you to adapt to life more affectively. You deserve a better life.

Sounds like u r physically dependent on alcohol. It affects every cell in your body so nothing is working as it is suppose to be including your thinking. And every cell as gotten accustomed to having alcohol in it so it's going to complain if alcohol isn't there. Alcohol in each cell is now normal even tho it means none r working as they r suppose to be. Withdrawal from alcohol is one of the few withdrawals that can actually kill you. IMHO u need to go see a medical doctor to get some physical help. Then when u can think clearly u can make other decisions. U can call your regular doctor or go to the ER or urgent care. If u need support in doing that call AA. There is usually someone available 24/7. Take care of yourself physically first.

Detox doesn't have to look like what you see in the movies. A competent physician can help you get through it relatively comfortably for a few days with the right medications. Anxiety is a common symptom of withdrawal.

I'm sorry to hear that you have reached this point.
I second the advice Mygrandjourney has given; I know friends who have competent physicians who have helped them move forward and progress whilst making the transition from being dependent to no longer being dependent. My wish for you is that you are able to find a sense of comfort soon. |

You post just reminded me all the hell my brother went through right before we dragged him to rehab.
Brennan11007, you can get out of this mess if you hear me out and follow what I say. You've already accepted that you’re an alcoholic. The rest is easy. Ask your parents to find out a good rehab center near you. If you’re from Canada, check out the Canada Rehab Reviews site that reviews alcohol addiction programs in Calgary and surrounding areas. Don’t think twice. Just go get admitted. Don’t waste any more of your life in a bottle. P.S. My brother has been sober for over a year now, and he is doing great. |
