this is a question i'd like answer too
i think i might be developing an addiction to dr pepper. (and i know you will all laugh, dr pepper?. what the) but seriously. it's been something i've been thinking about, since i'm noticing i am craving it (not just wanting some) more lately so what's the diffrence between actually " liking something", and being addicted |

I come from a practical standpoint. Is your enjoyment of Dr. Pepper affecting your relationships or career?
Has a dentist or doctor advised you to cut down or eliminate it from your diet? Do you continue to drink it in spite of some other negative consequences? moogs

Dr. Pepper has substantial caffeine on which you are physically dependent. If you stop drinking it cold turkey, you will get headaches, etc. for a few days.

It might not be an addiction, per se, but an allergy. My world renowned ENT allergist told me that you either crave or abhor what you are allergic to.... the thing with an allergy though is once you go off it for at least 3 days up to 10 days... you feel better and don't physically crave it. IF you do that, and still want to prove it's an allergy, then take a day and drink a bunch of it and if you're sick or craving again...it's an allergy.

There are plenty of different definitions of addiction out there so it would largely depend on the definition you are using... Either way... Does it matter how you define it? If you decide it is messing you up (for whatever reason) then look at how to change it... if not?
Just because something is an addiction doesn't mean we have to give it up. And just because something isn't an addiction, doesn't mean we don't have to give it up... I am addicted to heroin, alcohol, cigarettes and coffee (perhaps also the internet). Right now I am only giving up the first two. I am not addicted to family but I do need to give them up.. Most researchers no longer define physical dependency as addiction, also, so it is possible to go through some physical withdrawal from something without being addicted to it (according to latest addiction theory). |

Your probably addicted to the caffeine in it, not the dr. pepper itself. Contrary to what some people may say, it is actually possible to become addicted to caffeine. I've kind of been there myself to a point. Obviously, it's not an "addiction" in the same sense as some type of hard core drug. However, it can get to the point where you feel like you have to have it and without you just feel tired, miserable, and are not able to function at your best. You may also find yourself with a headache if you stop drinking it. I used to drink a Monster or Nos once or twice a day along with Mountain Dew, and I can say that it definitely can become a habit even though it does very little other than make you feel jittery/sometimes more alert. It's also not good for your heart, especially if you start noticing palpitations. It's surprising since too much caffeine just makes you feel awful and hyper.

i might be addictedto the mad drug ice i have it once a week and dont like the dreged out feeling of coming down i look forward to it every week even thuouggh its only a small amount its addictive can anyone help

When you are addicted to a substance, you feel as though you aren't able to get up and function doing anything in life without the said substance. Your thoughts and actions typically completely revolve around getting and doing what ever your drug(s) of choice is.

With all the caffeine and sugars, sure the body craves it. It's not a level one crisis addiction like to drugs and alcohol, it is still an addiction. For some though, it is a class one kind of addiction.
If it's disrupting your day, mind or life, like all things, if it's causing a problem or concern, then it is. Oh, like cocaine, I just like it- not love it, but I'm also addicted to it. |
