im just wondering, is it normal to abstain and then to partake several weeks later to have no effect or feeling from that which you partake?
im going to put all of this in a trigger, if you have any problem reading substance abuse time stuff maybe dont read ... just alcohol... recovering... but dont want to trigger anyone - pretty annoying to me though
Possible trigger:

If you've been drinking heavily for a long time, you develop tolerance and that never really goes away, unless your abstinant for a really long time. From the sounds of it, your tolerance level is just really high, and you need more and more to get the same effect.
I can relate. I have a huge tolerance and it's killing me. splitimage |

I detoxed a year ago at the hospital and have picked up the bottle a few times lately. And yes, my tolerance is still sky high after a year sober! It drives me nuts cuz all I want to do is catch a relaxing buzz but can't. Yet I continue to drink. I'm stupid. I actually read that if you're an addict, it can take years to bounce back IF you do at all. I totally get how much it sucks! But it's normal.

I think your mindset has a lot to do with what kind of buzz you get. You can get physically drunk and feel either up or down with it depending on what's going on in your head. If you are trying to quit drinking you are probably telling yourself you shouldn't be drinking, so you kinda bring your own buzz down. I know it's disappointing when drinking isn't as much fun as it used to be. Maybe it's a sign that you can live without it?
