My doctor prescribed it for me last week because my drinking alcohol got out of control. It is helping now. It also makes me tired at times and a bit irritable and nervous. But I am waiting for these side effects to go away. I have only been on it for 7 days now. Does anyone have any experiences with this med?

I'm also on it but to loose weight. It's hard for me to determine its side effects because I'm on many medications. But would not be surprised if it does make you sleepy, all my meds make me tired.

Thanks, and I have noticed it makes me not want to eat as much, too. I am glad for that as I am quite a lot overweight. I am on a lot of medications, too, and a few of them make me sleepy. Today the naltrexone didn't seem to make me sleepy but yesterday it seemed to. Maybe the side effects are wearing off.

I was on the injection called vivitrol and it kept me sober for a year. Then I got into opiates and my pdoc didn't know and gave me naltrexone again. NEVER take it on opiates. You'll go through instant withdraw within the hour. So that was the end of naltrexone for me. But I also just kicked my opiate habit just a week and a half ago and I'm considering it again. Or campral. That's another med to help drinking. Good luck on it and remember, no med is a miracle drug so go to meetings if you can. Anything to help you more. Just popping a pill won't cure alcoholism.

The drug is making me not want to drink and that is all I want. Thanks for your comment and the time and effort you took to post it.

Im on it for manic urges.
Started at 50mg in the morning. Then 50mg morning and noon.

I found it made me sleepy and body tired. I switched on my own to just 50mg at night. Seems a lot better.

Also, i dont have urges to drink. And once i tried 1 beer and felt nothing and didnt want to drink further.

i was on it for about 8 months after quitting drinking, i didn't find much in the way of side effects, but then again, after being soberish for the first time since i was 18, i was all over the place... . i hope it helps you, my urges to drink are stronger now i'm off it... and the odd time i have drank, when i was on it, i was able to limit myself a lot more than i can now. . . so i'm trying to just stay away from it..... good luck!!!!

I'm glad it helps you. I may start to take it at night, too. It says take daily so I can take it at any time. I had a glass of wine and couldn't even finish it. I didn't want it.

It was a weird feeling after that one drink. Im glad i didnt want to drink more.

If you google low dose naltrexone, its the same drug and people are altering it and having great results. Its popular and some drs will prescribe it. Great info out there.

So it did help you, too. Yes, it really does make you want to drink far less and you don't get drunk. That's my experience, too.

Glad this was some help for you, too. I haven't been able to drink more than 1 and 1/2 glasses of wine! Pretty good considering the amount I was able to put away before. lol
