I became a member of SMART around the same time that I joined here. It has been a great alternative to a 12 step program for me. I’ve been to several of their face to face meetings and love that cross talk is allowed. This helps me tremendously with my anxiety since I don’t like being the center of attention. Their online meetings are great as well. I’ve also been blogging there throughout the years.
Anyone else a member there? |

I've never been a member (I go to AA), but I've heard good things about it. My problem is that there aren't any IRL meetings around here. I'm glad you found something that works for you. Different approaches to problems make perfect sense.
I have problems with the spiritual part of the 12 steps...It led me to go out a few times. There is a small sub-group of AA called AA Agnostica that has 12 steps without any spiritual content. It's kind of interesting if anyone wants to Google them. |

Each one is run a bit differently depending on the facilitator. All I've been to though go around the room and do some sort of a check in. Usually a topic comes from that, but if not the facilitator usually has a topic for everyone. You can check out their website. There's a video about what to expect from your first meeting. I really like them. The website is smartrecovery.org
