Last night I went to a university reunion that started with a wine and cheese reception. It's my first time being in an environment where alcohol was being served since getting sober. Man was it hard. Free bar, everyone was drinking, and when I'd be talking to someone I could smell their wine which really made me want to drink. It didn't help that I was generally feeling really down. I didn't pick up - but boy was it hard.

Wow.....thank goodness you made it through!! Thats hard, being in a situation like that where you're not feeling stable. But you did it, so it was proven to you that you can sober through anything! Good job!!!!!

Hey splitimage,
Sorry you had a tough time of it. I was really hoping you would be able to go to the reunion, relax and have a good time. Its hard to have a good time when everybody else is drinking and you are having urges.

When I get out of a situation like that, I really need to connect with my recovering self. I talk with somebody else who is in recovery or write about it or get into some literature. That seems to help me get grounded back into my sobriety.

Try going with someone else in sobriety, having someone else that “gets it” around helps an enormous amount.

But congrats on staying the course, you are stronger than you think.
