You're gonna be the death of me, KJ; I had to find out what "hacked off" meant:

http://www.peevish.co.uk/slang/h.htm

Change your perspective. Get curious as to why you want to drink at "that" particular time (versus 6 hours ago or when you woke or last night, etc.). Nowadays, I'm old enough so I don't feel very well after drinking some; headaches, sleepiness, nausea, etc. and I dislike that more than the original state.

See if you can shift your response to finding/reading a good book or some other activity until some of the urge has passed.

If you live in Texas, USA, it's conceivable you could get arrested: http://www.slate.com/id/2138331/

I've often just gone to bed/sleep, knowing things will look different in the morning/later. If I read up on dreams, I can hope for an "interesting" dream and follow that up (which is all an activity so takes my mind of getting drunk/drugged).

Open all the liquor and pour it down the drain and then forbid myself to leave the house to buy more.

Write.

Plan/fine/execute a good meal instead. Sometimes I'll drink while I'm eating but won't need to get drunk if the food is really good.

A moving target is hard to hit so I keep working/resisting, choosing something else and eventually I outrun the feeling.

Perna

1. Cheers for the giggle...can't believe you've never heard hacked off.

2. I'm talking drugs here not booze. What Do You Do?

3. I live in a ganghood where dealers come to YOU making it kinda hard to say no when you're in that place.

4. Thanx for the advice. What Do You Do?

Do you go to NA? If so you can ring their central line. Hell you can ring there central line even if you don't go. I call the aA hotline all the time, If I can't get a hold of anyone else and I'm having a craving.

I try to remember that whatever is pissing me off is not worth losing my sobriety over, becasue odds are, I'll still be pissed off only with a hangover.

Sometimes I get on-line and jsut rant in my on-line journal or post on another board, similar to PC saying I'm struggling and I need help.

I'll go on cleaning binges just to burn of the energy - some of my best floor washing has been accomplished while swearing.

the most important thing is to remember this is just a feeling an urge and you can ride it out.

Thank you splitimage, it's all good advice and it does help hearing how other people deal with it. What Do You Do? What Do You Do?
