Hi all!

I've asked this time and time again in different forums and gotten different answers, depending on who I'm speaking to, so I'm trying a little experiment.

Do you think that an addiction to diet drugs is really an addiction to drugs? I've been addicted to them since I was 16 years old (now 30) . I simply have to have tio have them. They make me who I am. When I do not take them, I'm lethargic and sleep the whole day. I'm moody. People ask, what the hell's wrong with you? I feel so bad that I simply MUST get them again. My mom just doesn't understand. I don't know how to make her understand (I live with her and my dad. Long story... due to mental illness and lack of money).

so do you think diet drugs are really a drug addiction? What is your take?

sorry, but if you can't function without a drug, it is a drug addiction...now whether it is affecting your life and the lives of those around you or not would sway my advice on what to do about it...

as for the living with your parents...if you don't have money to live on your own, how are you getting money for your drugs, since your mom just doesn't understand? take a look at what you are sacrificing in order continue using...

take care

It's definitely possible to become addicted to over the counter medication, both psychologically and physically.

Some of the signs of addiction are:

Constantly thinking about using or where the next drug is going to come from.

An inability to stop taking the drug.

Continued use despite negative consequences to the user.

Tolerance - or needing more of the drug to get the same effect.

Symptoms of physical withdrawl (varies by drug) but definitely having some usually unpleasant physical response when the drug is absent.

Think about this list and how it applies to your life. Only you can decide if you have an addiction or not, but your answers to this list may give you some direction to think about.

Of course when you don't have them you feel bad; it's called withdrawal! That's what happens with drug addiction. I would get into treatment so you can get your own life. Some of your other mental problems could be related to/part of your addiction.
