Not long ago I posted here about the inpatient rehab program to quit smoking that's run by the Mayo clinic. Well, I got bad news this morning. My insurance won't cover it.

Now I'm feeling hopeless and sad.

I've tried to quit using medication, the patch, the gum, cold turkey, tappering to cold turkey, you name it. I've tried, I think, roughly 15 times so far and my record is five days wihout smoking. Each time ends the same way, I become so distressed, so absolutely upset and overwhelmed that I start up again.

I need help. That's all there is to it. I've quit other things but this one I can't do on my own. And to know help is out there but I can't take advantage of it is maddening.

I'm just very upset right now. I don't feel like I'm ever going to beat this thing.

Cyran0,

I'm sorry that your insurance won't cover the treatment - that really sucks. I've never smoked so have no experience with quitting, other than hearing that it's one of the hardest addictions to give you.

You're in my thoughts and I wish you all the best in your efforts to quit.

I feel you more than you know. I am too a indulger in the nasty habit.

I've tried quitting several times and went 3 months once.

I'm sorry your insurance won't cover that and I'm totally floored that it won't. YOU WOULD THINK that insurance companies would WANT you to quit a bad habit.

Keep searching, and looking, and trying, something will come your way, you will find your way.

I hope you find that way soon!!!!!!!

And me too!!!!!!

So yeah, that news really ruined my day yesterday. Now, today, I'm in a better mood but am still reluctant to contemplate another quit attempt on my own. It's all so very frustrating. Before I even start I know how it will play out. I need a new way.

Cyrano,

I know you said you've tried medication, but have you tried Champix, it's relatively new, or at least it's relatively new in Canada. I know a couple of people who have quit with it, and they say it's great becuase it takes the pleasure out of smoking.

Just a thought.

That so sucks. I'm gonna look into Chantix wen my benefits kick in. My old benefits wouldn't cover it. I've heard some really good things about Chantix. Have you looked in to that?

I have and it's actually the med I was hoping to use while in the Mayo program. But now I'll have to try it solo.

I just think so much of my addiction is psychological and that I would have really benefited from the counseling, group, etc.

As someone who started smoking again six months ago after 10 years of quitting, I feel your pain.

Insurance is NOT seeing the big picture here at all. This may sounds weird but what about hypnosis? I've been considering it.

i'm sorry about your news but my suggestion & it is just a suggestion is that if your tring to stay clean or sober stick with that right now & worry about smoking later b/c it may be too much at one time! and may cause u 2 go back out there. its something to consider but if not, good luck! keep tring don't give up & u'll get it eventually!
