Ok, so i saw an alcohol counsellor for the first time today.

She was really supportive and has given me an alcohol reduction

programme to try for 2 weeks and see how i go.

That's coz there is a two week waiting list for the full programme.

Now just gotta see how i go with this.

Roz,

So glad that you talked to an addictions councillor. Now I know it's going to be hard, but try to do exactly what she says, don't drink any more or less than you're supposed to - you have to ween yourself off slowly.

I remember thinking how funny it was when my addictions Dr. prescribed scotch to me, the third time I detoxed before starting a day treatment program. It was too late in the day for her to start me on valium and there were no beds so she couldn't admit me. I was already showing withdrawl symptoms pretty bad, and because I'd had withdrawl seizures before, she didn't want to risk another one. Her perscription 375 ml of scotch. LOL. I started detox the next day.

You can do this. You have everyone at PC cheering for you.

((split))

Yes, I was surprised too when she told me I shouldn't be pushing my withdrawal and go slowly with reduction till my proper appointment in 2 weeks time.

She actually shocked me tho by telling me if I have a very bad day....then don't cut down any more that day....just stay at the level I have got to...or I'm setting myself up for a fall.

Anyways, thank you for your support, it means a lot.

Yeah, I suffered horrible withdrawal too. I try to remember that whenever I have an urge to drink/use. Be careful over the next 2 weeks--I like you and I want you to stick around here! Be safe.

Roz - Hang in there you can do it. This may sound crazy but try sucking hard candies. Part of the problem with drinking heavily is there's so much sugar in it, that your body gets used to having lots of sugar in it's blood stream. So you're craving booze and sugar. It's now a joke with all my friends but when I was first getting sober, I was constantly sucking pepermint sticks. It really helped me make it through the first few weeks. And remember the longer you're sober, the better you'll feel physically.

Cheering for you.

Tracy...i have to call my social worker as i can't remember what day the appointment is. I'ts not that i'm not committed to this, i have genuine memory problems is all.

As for what kind of programme....all i was told is i will be asked to be honest about how the alcohol reduction is going. Dependant on my answer....we will either be looking at counselling with a support worker who will call me daily to see how i'm doing....or we'll be looking at detox.

But for now my alcohol reduction is on track.

splitimage....

had you said about candies, sugar etc 2 weeks ago...i would have thought it weird...but now i know it's true. the more i cut down my alcohol intake the more sugar i crave. though i am eating candies etc....which i don't normally...i'm also having lots of pure fruit juice and water too.

Thank You SO much for your support splitimage, it's a great help and means so much.
