I lost my sister today. She did not die, but I lost her the same.

She is a recovering drug addict or was. She had been clean for over 4 years. And she has started using again.

I know that since I have done nothing to make her use, I can not make her not use.

I know that my mental health depends on my staying out of this situation.

I know that my responsibility is to myself, my daughter & my husband.

I know all of this, but it still hurts.
I lost my sister today.

I'm sorry that she has relapsed. But your head is in the right place. Once one has cleaned up, it is no one's but the individual's responsibility to remain that way. I'm sorry that you're hurting, but all you can do is support her when she wants the help again. You and your sis are in my thought and prayers.

She's your sister, of course it hurts. (((huggz))) if wanted. But as you said, you have a family of your own now. If your sister wants help, you can be there for her, but you can't rescue her. Relapsing after so long is sad, but it does happen. I hope she realizes living life clean is living free and she'll take that leap and get help. You and your family are in my thoughts.

People like your sister are my best sponsors, they remind me of who and what I am.
We are all teachers, all of us, all the time. And the lesson she has to teach me is costing her a great deal. I will not let it go unlearned.

I am so sorry for your loss. Praying that is is only a temporary insanity and that she will find her way back. Being a recovering alkie and druggie myself for 15 years I know that there is a thin line between us and the false remedy that substances offer. I agree with the others that you be available when she returns but keep you and your family safe from the harms of her addiction. ((((JPD))))

Love, Hope and Strength,
Tooter (Pam)
