I hope this doesn't trigger anyone, and I don't expect any replies, but I just wanted to share that I was aggravated. We were at a family function this weekend, and my aunt asked me about my new job as a court clerk. I told her that it was great but it is killing me sitting around at the desk all day, but I always try to get up and walk around every hour.

Granted, I still can't go to the gym due to my concussion, nor can I do a lot of walking, but I am trying to stay active/eat healthy to maintain weight.

She looks at me and says "well, you better do something about it girl, or you are going to pack on the pounds." and I am like, really? She really wants to go there, knowing that I dealt with anorexia before and am still dealing with trying to stay "recovered?" Grrrr. I know I should just put it out of my head but it is sooo hard. I am frustrated.

That was really insensitive of your aunt. Did the fact that you have dealt with anorexia in the past fly out of her head or something?

Best to just blow off her comment as being a stock comment she probably would say to anyone in that situation & definitely not thought through or she wouldn't have said what she did.

Put the comment aside & keep walking through your life on the healing path you are now on & you will do well.

Good that you were able to express your aggravation here. I have found that when I hold in things like that they tend to bother me more than if I can express them & my aggravation that they have caused.

I agree with person above me. People say ridiculous dumb things all the time! Most likely she was not thinking. Also, it shows more of her own issues. As if that was the first thing she felt she should say, she probably deals with body/weight obsessions of her own. Please, don't let it trigger you too badly, as I would bet its something she says due to her own issues, not yours.

Wolfin3,

I hear you. When I was little and went to visit my grandmother, she would offer me a cookie, and then tell me that cookies make girls fat and unattractive to men when they get older.

I'd usually end up throwing the cookie in the garbage .

(((Wolfen)))

My Aunt Kathryn would open her mouth and spew insensitive, stupid stuff like that. I still shake my head over her inability to be appropriate! I'm here to tell you, you're a-okay!

Family isn't just insensitive--they are down right mean. Why is it that the meanest people you will ever meet are the ones you are related to?

I believe the correct response to this aunt would have been: "You're absolutely right--I'd hate to end up weighing as much as you!"

Now anytime anyone says anything obnoxiously stupid, i'm going to picture steaming poo and burst out laughing.

Sorry stumbled in this page as was reading a friends post and read this.

Wow could she have been any more hurtful. Them comments are hurtful enough even when you don't have issues.

I'm sorry she made you feel that way. I hope that you have managed to let her negative and hurtful words pass.
Keep strong and be proud of yourself

Looking forward to tomorrow's Thanksgiving fun with my aunt...LOL...I have since lost a bit of weight since she last saw me (which I was not heavy anyway last time she saw me, BTW) so HA to her.

I definitely will keep your thoughts/suggestions in mind tomorrow if she so chooses to bring anything up to me again....
