Hi there,
I was telling T about when I wake up most mornings and I sit up, the whole world goes black and I can't see - it fades out like someone is throwing dirt into my eyes . My eyes are still open but I can't see/hear anything. Then it passes. I looked it up online and it's common in EDs (apparently..) Does anyone else experience this and how do you deal with it? ![]() |

I have this too...I think its related to hydration which can affect your blood pressure...which causes the fading out feeling. The simple answer is that if we took better care of ourselves in the nutritional dept. this would go away---beyond that, I just try to go from a lying to standing position slowly.

I have this problem too. However, mine is from Benign Positional Vertigo. All you really can do is move slowly. I would talk to my dr about it and find out the real cause.

The same thing happens with me. It's because, well both because of nutrition stuff... like because your heart doesn't get enough it doesn't get as good circulation and because of that, when sitting up suddenly the blood flow doesn't get to the brain fast enough. Take it slow and if it get really fuzzy and stuff lay down so the blood can get to your brain. Otherwise, you'll pass out and it's not fun. (you've probably experienced...) but yeah

Soon madness has worn you down. It’s easier to do what it says than argue. In this way, it takes over your mind. You no longer know where it ends and you begin. You believe anything it says. You do what it tells you, no matter how extreme or absurd. If it says you’re worthless, you agree. You plead for it to stop. You promise to behave. You are on your knees before it, and it laughs... ![]() |

When I was in the hospital with the anorexia, my blood pressure was really low.....also had that same thing from some of the Anti-depressants they had tried on me other times during other hospitalizations......
The blacking out can definitely come from the low blood pressure when you get up from a laying down or sitting down position

Restricting can make your blood pressure really low, and purging (if you do it) empties your body of potassium which can cause muscle weakness. I experienced this a lot when I was actively doing both, I actually have a scar on my face because one day I fainted dead out and my tooth went right through my lip. All you can do is be very careful when sitting up, standing up, going up stairs, hold onto something if you can.
The only thing that will make it start to get better is being in the recovery stage and having a healthier body. For now, just be careful, you can really hurt yourself if you fall (especially since restricting makes your bones very weak too). |

This happens all the time to me, it's the scariest when I'm exercising. I've had moments where I nearly passed out in the middle of the yoga studio. I've learned to move very slowly and carefully whenever I stand up out of forward folds or just sit up/stand up in general. It's hard too when you're around other people and trying to hide it because it happens so often. This was kind of a wake up call for me- I didn't realize how much this was affecting my body and now I'm trying to recover.
