I know this is completely normal. I mean what else is there to do if you completely ruined your ability to poo without them. But I mean seriously this is SO triggering for me. I want to overuse them so much. And my mind is chanting at me to just do it.

I'm so stressed out. And I can just feel it. I have this knowing feeling that I'm going to end up using them whether I really want to or not. But as of right now I really don't want to.

It's so frustrating. Hopefully if I get that feeling and it's really strong I'll have willpower...
Wish me luck.

Hi there,

I can totally understand.

One day I was looking at the side effects of lax abuse and one was a colostomy bag (after your bowel is removed) which helped me eat fibre rich foods and gently limit them over time.

Take care x

There are so many foods I eat that cause the same effect.

I have to admit...I used/abused them years ago.....but stopped before any damage was done luckily.

I have found that eating several Tablespoons of honey roasted sunflower seeds works well & is more nutritional.

Stress is another thing that works better for me than laxitives also. Every time I eat when I'm stressed it's like having taken laxitives...it's really miserable honestly....the cramps even with the laxitives feels horrible......it is much better to find the right foods that naturally take care of your body

I've been in this situation, the trick is to drink more water, slowly reduce the laxatives and try to eat more fibre (I find shredded wheat with fruit in can be effective)

Make sure you see your GP if you really can't go.

I think RectO said it all- slowly decrease the dosage (but not too slowly), eat more fibrous food (veggies, flax seeds or buy some fibre if you can't make yourself to eat more- there are artificial or natural based- zero cals) and seek out medical help if you haven't been in more than 7 days.

The trick, however, remains that stg has to go in to actually come out- preferably food. The first week is the hardest- please don't weight yourself cause there sure will be some weight gain (no, it's not fat- your body gets rehydrated and intestines filled). Plus be prepare for the bloating- change your jeans- not fitting into them was a HUGE trigger for me.

Good luck
