Hi,
Would you ever consider getting a tattoo to celebrate reaching your goals in recovering or for recovery? I'm thinking of getting a symbol on my wrist. What symbol would you get as a recovery symbol? Personally, I want to get a tattoo as its final, like a full stop after reaching recovery and to help remind me that I've survived something I fought for 12+ years. ![]() |

I got a tattoo that commemorated my change in attitude when I started a more intensive point in my treatment (the Japanese Kanji for "Beginning & End"). It was at about the time I "recovered" from my longest bout with an ED, so I guess it could also be a recovery tattoo. I know I want a phoenix tattoo at some point, but I feel like I'm constantly changing or that one (though that is what it symbolizes).
Do you have anything you are leaning towards? |

I want to get a recovery tattoo. It will be a butterfly with the NEDA symbol as the body. I plan on getting it when I am no longer needing to see a dietician every month.

Well, for me, my recovery was aided by meditating, crystal therapy and reading about angels and basically learning to hope again. I was thinking of getting a tattoo in white ink so only I could see it against my pale skin as a reminder to myself.
Thank you for your replies so far. ![]() |

I would not get any tattoo that was a symbol designed for eating disorder recovery. Someone might recognize it and I do not need people to know. It is not a badge of honor......for me. For others they might were their disorder like a badge of honor.

This can be where survivors search for mother and father figures. Transference issues in counseling can occur and this is normal for childhood abuse survivors. |

I'm thinking of getting a symbol; personally not an ED (logo) related one; one linked to angels perhaps as that is a new positive constant in my recovery.

I have the NEDA symbol on my ankle. I did it while manic. It's not tattoo but a scar. When I came down I was P***ed! Not because I had the picture but because of the surrounding circumstances. Lucky it's fading that incident taught me I never want my ED to have any claim on my body.

The tattoo I want next is going to symbolize my struggle with not just the ED but my other MH issues as well...but no one would know unless I said so. I want to get a tree with wording for roots (peace, hope, love), strength down the trunk [maybe], and a bird flying from the branches with the words fly free.

All my symbols are kept within my heart.....I don't need outward symbols to recognize positive achievements in my life........I have had many wonderful achievements in my life even though they haven't been permanent......I am capable of remembering them just the same.
Shoot, I almost passed out when I had my ears pierced....not about to have a tattoo

I want to get one when I am actually recovered from my unfortunate multiplicity of disorders, including the anorexia... I want it to be of a sun, as the sun to me is a symbol of new days, new beginnings, and is also a bright and hopeful symbol.

I know I'm a bit late, but I do have a recovery tattoo for eating disorders.
![]() I got it to remind myself that although I am not yet 100% recovered, that I have come such a long way and that I can do it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Hello!
I considered getting a tattoo after reaching my goals. Altough it might not be a recovery symbol, my tattoo is a capricorn. The most important thing that made me choose it is the meaning/meanings. I wanted something that means certain things such as intelligence, wisdom and fertility (let the good things come now, not the bad ones). I also believe my tattoo symbolizes my struggle also. I am sure some people don't believe in this type of tattoos, but I am confident this tattoo is going to help me out a lot (and it already does). Whenever I fell sad, that tattoo is there for me. Does it sound stupid? Does someone else feel the same? By the way, I don't have any piercings at the moment. Do you? |
