One of my cousins are getting married and he is the first in his family and so is his fiancee so both their family's decided there is going to be a total of 4 functions. One of them is today and another in 2 days.
I have mild essential tremor but when I'm anxious it gets quite bad.Same goes for my legs(That's the worst part.) I have a tremor in my legs too but it only shows when I'm going down stairs or I'm anxious. So yesterday I kind of had a "taste" of how I would feel before I go the the wedding. Some guests came over that I haven't seen in years,I had to go greet them and I did... but that was after having my legs shake like crazy in my bedroom and panic attack. When I'm at the wedding I know my hands are going to be shaking but I won't have any pockets so I can't hide them. :/ I really need some help to make my hands stop shaking even if it's just slightly. As long as my hands stop shaking so will my legs. oh and I've tried breathing techniques but they don't help very well. |

One of the times (which was during my panic attack), I had to pack my instrument away (we just performed a piece I couldn't play without getting a panic attack) and my hands were shaking like crazy. I had to cover a plastic piece over the mouth piece. As I was doing that, I was shaking like crazy. I just wanted that to go by fast so no one would see I am having a panic attack. Then my friend notices my hands and asked if I am okay and stuff (she knows I get panic attacks because I told her and she's fine with it because she has panic disorder herself). I said ya, though I kinda wasn't. Anyways, to avoid situations like that, I suggests holding onto something that will help prevent the shaking (like a table, your hand, your leg). This may help. Sorry for the long story. Hope this helps ![]()

Ask your doctor if propranolol would help.

Is there any sort of prop you can bring to keep your hands busy to make the shaking less noticeable? I also get shaky legs/hands and it can be very very embarassing if I am in a social situation. I find that having a prop of sorts (jewelry, a book, ANYTHING) to grasp on to detracts from my hands and lets me grip it and move it around. Not only does it occupy my mind but it also minimizes the shaking.

Not that it's going to be an "everytime solution", but have you guys ever heard of Stimtastic? I can't post links, but you it's probably the first link you'll get on google.
They make and sell spin rings, chewable necklaces and some other toys and jewelry that can help keeping your hands busy when you don't know what to do with them. Sometimes it's helps before things goes out of control and you start worrying of other people noticing it. |
