I have to get a criminal record check and a child welfare check before I can be hired as a childcare worker.
I have never been arrested or convicted of any crime. Nor have I ever abused a child. Just the thought of going to the police station and having them search my personal records scares me to death! I keep on trying to remind myself that I have never been convicted or arrested for any crime. But still I cannot stop worrying about it all. And as for the child welfare check as I have stated before I have never abused a child before nor would I ever. My paranoia tells me since I didn't leave on good terms with my former employers that what if they put something down on my file saying I hurt a child? It has been 3 years since I have worked with children. And in those 3 years the police and child welfare have not contacted me at all. I know this sounds very silly but would it be safe to assume that my records are clear? |

Definately Zen. You're ok. These feelings are completely natural at least for me.

![]() If there were any serious charges against you, you would know already. So don't worry about the police background check. Many, many people have to go through that for their work. It's very routine. Everyone feels nervous going to the police station. I have great anxiety just having a police care pull up behind me in traffic! ![]()

![]() I'd rather have a visit, note or pretty picture than an "I'll say a prayer" or a "god bless you." Doesn't make me feel better, no meaning to me for sure. Can't stop you from praying and blessing me, and if that makes you feel better feel free. ![]() But keep it to yourself please, don't tell me. And let's all respect each other's feelings. With kindness, support and "sweet dreamings." ![]() |

Quote:
The company I work for is one of 4 companies in the country to win contracts with the Federal Government to work the Direct Student Loans for college students. To get the contract, EVERYONE, including our seasonal/temp workers had to be finger-printed and credit/Federally background checked. Even though I knew there was nothing in my past or present to "red flag" me, it made me nervous...(It was fine and I was cleared as good to go...) So try to put the worry aside and not obsess over it. You KNOW it will be fine, trust that. If nothing else, we understand and support you. ![]()

Zen, don't worry. Years ago I worked for a state agency and was on a panel that regularly reviewed criminal records for people who were hired to work in state institutions for the developmentally disabled.
We did hire people who had criminal records. But, if the crime was for something that was not a crime against a person (like criminal damage to property) we hired them anyway. So, it's not a carte blanche thing anyway. You have nothing to worry about. I'm sure there won't be anything at all on your record. I never saw a mistake on there.
