i have just rediscovered the joys of 1000 piece and smaller jig saw puzzles. Christmas day i started one in my study while listening to classic and classical Christmas music from the local classical music station. i was able to really mellow out, staying in the now being focused on the puzzle, taking my time going slow, and just blocking out everything else. i worke3d on it a little bit at a time all week and my frau came in and we worked on different parts together. beats watching inane tv. and it's good for keeping the mind active (in a good way) and building new neuro pathways.

i was feeling antsy after dinner tonight so, instead of taking a pill, i put on classical music and worked on the puzzle for an hour. i feel much calmer and ready for sleep. we finished it up this evening and will take it down the end of the week and start another.

Thanks for this! I'm glad you found something fun and helpful. It sounds very nice.
Ironically, yesterday I found a jigsaw puzzle on my bookcase that I don't remember buying and I am going to open it and get going on it tonight. I love working on a jigsaw puzzle and find it relaxing and fun to celebrate finally finding that piece you've been searching!! A fun sense of accomplishment

Yes, I concentrate on the puzzles my genealogy gives me; found last night that my 6x great grandparents married each other's first cousins :-) The cousins weren't related to each other, of course, so my gggggg grands weren't either but it was quite a puzzle to figure out what was going on, back the end of the 1700's, piece by piece.

I like to listen to music and play solitaire on the computer too, I find that relaxing concentrating on the game and just seeing how quick I can spot moves, help increase my pattern recognition skills :-)
