I'm so anxious about applying for a part-time job, I've been overeating to the point of feeling ill and close to vomiting.

Does anybody know any ways to stop this negative coping mechanism? What else can I do to rid myself of this anxiety?

Applying for a job is anxiety provoking. It is limited; it will ease after you have applied.
What is it about the applying that is scary? What fear(s) are you attempting to avoid thinking about by eating, I wonder.

Thanks for your reply.
My anxiety stems not so much from the applying itself, but the worry that the job will be so stressful on me that I'll have another breakdown.

That being said, I've already applied and the employer will keep me in mind, but he has said that he is already considering someone else. So now the anxiety is basically gone...for now.

Melissa,

Many people have heard about controlled breathing as a way to deal with anxiety, have you? All I am is a fellow-sufferer. I'm not a practitioner or anything like that. I can tell you that controlled breathing has helped me with my GAD. It doesn't cost a thing. You can get information anywhere on the net and probably somewhere here in PC. It's an effective, zero-toxicity, no cost method of working on your anxiety. And it works. Whenever you apply for another job and feel terribly stressed, this would a good thing for you to know. Take good care.

Do you have a therapist to help you with work stress?

If you have been working with a therapist, the you might consider that you are more emotionally healthy now than you were then. And that, if you have the help of a therapist now, then you can deal with the stress together. And you can work on it when it happens, so it won't have the chance to become overwhelming.

It could be that your next job will be very different from the last job. It is one of those unknowns, but having support can make all the difference.

((((melissa))))

This must be awful for you; I know I've been exactly the same way. I used to eat because of it, then I changed tack. I would drink a full glass of water and put off eating something, just the way I did to stop smoking. I'd be unable to eat nearly as much and my system got a good flush out...

Though drinking too much water can dilute bodysalts and cause electrolyte imbalance it was better to drink water than eat a full chocolate pudding on my own...Now I have a piece every second night and I feel ok with that.

But that's only one idea there must be hundreds more, pick up a book instead, go for a short walk, take a shower, play with the dog if you have one, do some gardening, clean out a closet etc etc.

I really do hope you get this sorted
