I can't seem to swallow my pills without extreme anxiety. I have to take my meds, I take several. My first hammer I ever owned was bought to crush my pills. I don't go that far anymore but if I have trouble I just won't take them. I have a thyroid problem, cholesterol and blood pressure--among other things. I NEED my meds but I'm terrified to take them!!

I'm sorry you have this problem (((((((rtaylor)))))))) I have a lot of anxiety around taking pills also. But my anxiety mainly has to do with fearing that I will have a serious adverse reaction. If I've taken the pill before without a problem, then I'm able to continue. It's only with new medication that I have big anxiety issues (or with medication that I could potentially become addicted to, such as tranquilizers).

Do you have any idea why you feel anxious about taking your regular meds? Would it help to take the pills with food?

Wishing you all the very best

Have you tried crushing them up and putting them in applesauce? That is if they are not the extended release ones. Sometimes doing that will make it seem like you are just having a bowl of applesauce or even a cup of pudding and does not feel like you are taking medication. I had a patient once that had the same issue and when she did that method it worked well for her. Just a though, not much of one, but I hope it may be of help to you

This is an unproven solution, but it has worked for me. I use too have problems taking pills. So before pilll time I'd make a piece of toast. Take a few bites of toast and then a pill. It kinda tricked by body into thinking we were still swallowing toast. Now I can even take the big calcium pill and don't even need the toast.
