Been sick for years, seen so many doctors, last diagnosis was
migraines. Saw a new neurologist this week. She says I have
Hyperventillation syndrome which certainly could explain all my symptoms
including panic attacks. Still not convinced its the correct diagnosis yet.

I know I dont breath properly due to the knot I carry in my stomach.

Has anyone been told they have this? I guess learned rebreathing,
meds and counseling is some of the ways to help, also accupuncture
has been mentioned. I'd be interested what has helped people.
Its taken over my life for 4 years.

Hi Masimo. I don't have a diagnosis of hyperventilation syndrome but my breathing is most definitely effected by my anxiety, and it's quite alarming when I find my breathing pattern getting out of sync.

I do think that practicing breathing exercises on a daily basis is helpful and I do this. Here's a link to an article I found on HVS and it gives some good instructions for 2 specific breathing exercises.

The other thing that helps me personally when my breathing feels weird is exercise. I find that doing something which forces me to breathe more deeply and more evenly (for example, exercise) is a good way to get my breathing into a healthier pattern.

Wishing you all the very best

i have had this syndrome in the past. there were triggers that set it off...real or unaware fears. my T suggested i think it through. hard to do but it works. like what is causing me to react this way? what is concerning me? can i do anything to resolve this? talking about those things help too cause the more i talk about it it calms me down. i've had the hyperventilation so bad that one side of my body went numb. medics had to put me on oxygen to make it go away. that drove me quickly to my T.
