I am often very anxious early in the day. Which makes me tired. Which means I drink coffee. Which makes me wired and not able to relax and in a sense more anxious. But no coffee and I'm just tired, and relaxing is kind of a pipe dream anyway.
Should I just give up coffee in the morning? I don't really drink that much, I just have this 16 ounce thermos which I don't even usually finish. but I dunno. thea |

I don't drink coffee. Just never really acquired the taste.
However, I read a study that looked at if coffee really gave one energy. Apparently, people who drink coffee get energy from the coffe but then have a decrease in energy. People who don't drink coffe have the same energy as a coffee drinker after the coffee. rose |

Hi thea. I don't drink coffee either, I just don't like it. However, I'm still very anxious!! Maybe you could try giving up coffee for, say, two weeks, and see if that makes a difference to your anxiety and your energy levels?
I don't drink tea either, but some people swear by certain herbal teas so that might be something to look into? Perhaps there is some type of tea that is gently energizing??

Ok, now this is a question for the ages.
![]() I am a HUGE coffee fan and admitted addict. I like coffee in that obsessive way where I buy and grind my own beans, I have favorite roasts, and I've spent years perfecting the ideal shot of espresso. So you get how much I love coffee? Good, so you'll understand my pain when I say I've had to cut waaaaay back and it has made a difference for my anxiety. What I ended up doing was experimenting day by day. How do I feel if I cut myself off at x number of ounces? What happens if I just do coffee and make espresso an occasional treat? That kind of thing. I now have a much better idea of how coffee effects me and what I can handle without aggravating my anxiety. I hope this helps. Cyran0

Keep in mind coffee contains more chemicals than caffeine. You might want to try different plant sources of caffeine if not quitting all together. Personally, a small cup of coffee gives me a sort of rush that I always end up regretting when the anxiety sets in. Some sugar might be all you really need to get things going in the morning.
