Hi everyone,
I have been on this site before, but feel the need to ask for help. I don't know what to do. I have a therapist but there is only so much she can say.
I have severe anxiety whenever I start to like someone. Unless they can give me all of them I think they are emotionally unavailable, and then I get really depressed and anxious until I get over it. I have tried to not like anyone but it always happens again and again. It freaks people out when I am so attached after being with them once. I start deleting numbers of people that have done nothing wrong because I know I can't handle if I dont' hear from them. Help!! What can I do to help with this?

Quick childhood background. Abused from 4months to 3 by mother. 3 years in and out of hospital. 1.5 years in foster care. Back home with maternal parents at 4 and a half. I know it all is caused from that, but I don't know how to handle this anxiety. Sick of having to take meds all the time, and not being able to get things done.

Thank you.

I too have an anxious attachment just like yours. What has helped me a lot was to read books (mostly self-help but also basic psychology) about anxious attachment.

One that really helped was Anxious To Please by James Rapson. The author does a wonderful job explaining the roots of anxious attachment and how to overcome your insecurities due to your attachment.

Another book I'd recommend is called Attached by Amir Levine. This book deals more with teaching the reader about anxious attachment, but it's a good read that I think might help.

That's pretty much all I've done to deal with my anxious attachment. I wish I had some better advice for you. I do understand though. I can really sympathize with how you feel.

Thank you so much,
I will check out those books. I'm sick of looking like a crazy person, even though I may not as I spend all my time trying NOT to message or contact. It's kind of embarrassing. It would be nice to be able to talk to you more if you would to PM me. Just reading your reply made me feel a bit better.
