My anxiety causes my blood pressure to skyrocket, but it really only happens when I'm nervous..especially during doctor visits. My GP prescribes BP medications for this because it's obviously high every time I see her. When I go home it returns to normal - literally 120/80. Shouldn't I be taking an anti-anxiety instead? It's not high all the time, only when I'm nervous.
Today we had a blood drive at school. I'd been looking forward to donating ever since I signed up two weeks ago. When the nurse took my BP, it was around 145/112, so I couldn't donate ![]() Do you think I should be taking an anti anxiety-instead?

I don't know if you should be on medicine or not, but GP docs can be clueless sometimes. You should try another doctor or a psychologist to be evaluated.

Yeah, she's kind of an idiot. When my Paxil wasn't working, she actually googled "antidepressants for teens" to figure out which one she should prescribe...I watched her. Gee, if it comes to that, why not put all the pills in a bag and draw one out to decide which to prescribe...would make just as much sense
