I'm worried about some results regarding my mental health. II was wondering how long it usually takes to get back results. I'm starting to get paranoid that they don't have a clue what's wrong and it's taking them longer and longer to find a word to describe it. I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me how long it takes to get results to put my mind at ease a little.

Have you had some testing done? Or an initial consultation?
I'm not clear about the results that you're waiting for.
How long have you been waiting?
Can you ring them and ask if they have your results yet?

I think the time it takes would vary from place to place. I doubt there is a set amount of time because it would depend on things like having staff available. I doubt that it is that they can't find a name; they are experts at what they do, and if they were unclear, they would contact you for more information or testing.

So, the short answer is that it takes as long as it takes - some answer, huh?!
I would not read anything into how long it's taking, but since you are concerned I think it would be a good idea to ring them and ask when you can expect your results.

Good luck!

I've talked to a psychiatrist come into my school and talk to me, asking me questions to see if I have anything wrong. I'm not sure what you would call that. I had that about a week ago, so I don't know if this is a really short time and I shouldn't worry... I could ring them but I'm scared too. I have a feeling that they'll just say 'Oh yeah, we haven't got round to it yet' or 'We forgot about you.' Something along those lines (even though I know this is extremely unlikely.)

Thank you, your reply has helped me calm down a little bit, and I suppose that is the most important thing at the moment. Not getting stressed out about it. Thanks again.

Did the psychiatrist come just to see you or other students too? If it was a "group" thing you might not hear anything at all, what the school or whoever was testing for by having the psychiatrist come are looking for things in the group, not for/just you?

If you went to a psychiatrist that works at the school, like in a counselling center, if they feel you need help, they will call and schedule an appointment with a counsellor for you as soon as one opens up and depending on how your issues are compared with others. I went to my university counselling center the same day my next door neighbor dorm mate went and I was called the next day but she was not called for a long time because her issue was not as serious as mine. If that is the case, the longer you are not called, the more likely is your situation is not "bad" :-)

But in either case; I would call them if you would like to know! A week is plenty of time but be warned they will not tell you about yourself on the phone, just about when you can expect to see someone again to discuss your initial testing or clarification as to what/who the testing was for and whether your individual testing is going to be follow-up by them.

I believe it was just me. My sixth form adviser had noticed I was acting a little strange after a PHSE day where people came in and talked about mental health, and I had told her about how I related to a lot of the symptoms. She then organised for the people to come see me for me as I'm incredibly shy and I wasn't able to do it myself.
Ah, that clears up a few things. Thank you, I think that if I don't get anything back from them by Wednesday I may ring them up or email them. Just to make sure.
