I am thinking of getting off my antidepressant and anxiety medication. I can't go though every month wondering if my Doctor will give me a prescription before I run out. I feel like all he is is a drug dealer,if I don't see him and pay the co-pay every month I don't get my medication. I was told by him last month to come in or call and let him know I was ok and he would authorize my refill, I understand he needs to make sure I am ok by law. Well I went in today and I was a week early so they would not call it in, then was told I need to see him so they could get the co-pay also was told last month to not wait until I ran out of medication because sometimes it takes a few days for his MA to call them in. I have anxiety attack over anxiety medication! HA! It is just ridiculous! Thanks for letting me vent again my memory is getting bad I have probably complained about this last month too!

I hear ya! Does your pdoc not give you refills for your prescriptions? I usually get at least 3 refills on meds I've been taking consistently.

I know my pdoc will not prescribe meds if patients stop coming to appointments. I guess the docs need to see the patients and make observations about their behavior--and, yes, I'm sure they like the money they get for appointments! Right now I'm seeing her once a month.

Perhaps it depends on the medication and also on your situation. I get my GP to authorize my antidepressant (Prozac) and get a 90 day supply at a time. I am sure that your doctor needs to know that you are ok in order to prescribe certain medications that are potentially harmful or subject to abuse. I often think they spend too little time though and bill the insurance company for a substantial fee for something that takes them all of a minute or two.

GMA45 - I don't think that you should have to through that stress all of the time. How long have you been with your Pdoc? I was wondering if he really knows you at all. My Pdoc has been seeing me for a couple (2-3 yrs) years and sees me twice a year. He prescribes my medications for 90 days with one refill. I am fairly stable so it works well for me/us. I know that if I am not well I just need to call him. Perhaps you should consider a new Pdoc? Something to think about anyway. Tuti
